I make the occasional dabble into the world of Apple QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) immersive imagery. These QTVR files were created by stitching together a large number of high resolution photos and processing them with special software to create the movie file which you can see. Each one took several hours of exacting work to create. Enjoy your visit. Email comments are welcome. All of these QTVR movie files are copyright © Steve Swayne. They are available for purchase for commercial use.

Devils Marbles, Northern Territory, Australia.
I camped here overnight to experience this desert landscape at dusk and dawn. A scenic and beautiful place which is well worth a visit. It is situated on the road between Alice Springs and Darwin, in the desert country of central Australia.

Finke Gorge Amphitheatre, Northern Territory, Australia.
Finke Gorge is off the beaten track - literally. To get there involves a 4WD trek along the dry bed of the Finke River. The camping ground is wonderful, nice people were there, friendly rangers, and magnificent scenery.

Finke River, Northern Territory, Australia.
On my way back after a memorable few days in the Finke Gorge region. This QTVR movie shows part of the track along the dry river bed. The Finke River is the oldest surviving river on the surface of the Earth. Scientists estimate the age at over 100 million years.

Gosse Bluff, Northern Territory, Australia.
Gosse Bluff is the ancient time-worn remains of a giant impact crater, which was formed when a comet slammed into the ground over 140 million years ago. A huge feature that has to be seen from the air to be truely appreciated. Way bigger than the crater in Arizona... My central Australia travels page has a Google Earth file with a link to this location.

Ormiston Pound, Northern Territory, Australia.
This is a dry desert valley completely surrounded by ancient weathered hills. The natural cupola channels water through the Ormiston Gorge. A five hour long walk to travere the pound is required to visit this vantage point.

Finke Gorge Amphitheatre, Northern Territory, Australia.
Taken at sunset, the colours on the rock outcrops was amazing. The desert sand is a deep ruby red colour and it is filled with countless tiny glittering particles - like tiny jewels.

Trephina Gorge, Northern Territory, Australia.
Situated over 100 km east of Alice Springs in the dry desert country, this magnificent gorge is similar to Lawn Hill Gorge in Queensland, except there is no spring fed permanent water course. The dry sand is only inundated with water a few days each year during the occasional rain events. The contrast of the blue sky, white sand, red cliffs and green vegetation is stunning.

Valley of the Winds, The Olgas, Northern Territory, Australia.
This was a very spiritual place to visit. Large outcrops of rock loom above the flat desert landscape. Not far from Uluru in the heart of Australia.
